Are There Any Dangers With The HCG Diet?

HCG Diet DangersIf you’ve been looking for a way to lose weight you’ve might have heard of the HCG diet. I say you might have heard about it because news is starting to spread about the great results that people are having.

But are there any dangers to the HCG diet, or is it a safe way to lose weight?

I’m going to lay out the facts to you so you can actually know the answer to this question.

I know there are a lot of strong opinions out there, and there is even more bad information being spread by misinformed people and peddlers of other diets trying to convince you their diet is “better” or safer. And all of these people have zero experience with the diet and have never gone on the diet themselves.

Well I have been on the diet and I personally know countless numbers of people who have also completed it.

I’m also a medical researcher and I’ve done my homework. I have nothing for you to buy on this site and I’m writing this to help you learn the truth about the HCG diet so you can make an informed decision of your own.

So, are there any HCG diet dangers or side effects that you should be aware of?

Well, that depends on how you do the diet.

For example, you can use the old injection method which requires you to take an HCG shot every day. This is effective and numerous people have done it successfully.

But I must warn you, injections can be dangerous.

I would never recommend the injection method to anyone unless they are seeing a doctor every couple of days and you have a proper prescription to get the injections of HCG. This is because injections are serious business and bring complications with them.

Of course you can get your HCG injections online from overseas vendors but you don’t know what you’re getting and it is probably illegal. Also the injections can cause blood clots and other side effects that are serious.

So the injections work but make sure you are supervised by a medical professional, and be aware of the downsides like increased cost and some risks. And these downside are why the injections are not my preferred way of doing the HCG diet.

But the second way of doing the HCG diet is my preferred way of doing it.

And that preferred method is to use a new oral hormone-free HCG diet product known as HCG Diet Accelerator. This method has you take an HCG Diet Accelerator product while on the diet plan. All you do is take an oral capsule by mouth several times a day.

It’s been shown to be just as effective as the injections during the plan but there are more benefits to doing it the oral way.

For example, it’s a lot cheaper to use the oral capsules and this is primarily because you don’t need a prescription to get it and there are no expensive drug companies to mark up the price and that makes it easier to get.

Also with an oral product you don’t need some big dose of HCG for the diet to be effective. You can take the HCG Diet Accelerator version but still get the best results, which makes it safer and a more natural approach.

The other benefit is that it’s more convenient. Swallowing a few capsules by mouth is a lot simpler than mixing your HCG, preparing the syringe, and then injecting it. And since it’s easier it’s almost impossible to mess up making it fool-proof.

Also most people do it from home on their own and don’t need any doctor’s assistance.

The only thing you have to be careful about is where you get your oral HCG diet product from. There are a lot of scams out there selling worthless stuff so make sure you go with a good company that has a great product that is also made in a FDA certified lab. Also make sure they have great support because you will have questions.

And so I don’t have to answer 100′s of emails about where I get mine I’ll just recommend it here, I get all my HCG Diet Accelerator from this company: Pure HCG Diet

Just my opinion but I think their product is the best and their support forum that you get for free when you order with them is awesome because it answers all your questions and you can talk with everyone else on the diet. I’ve never had a problem with them and if you were my sister or brother that’s exactly who I would tell you to go with.

Of course you can use whoever you’d like just be careful about the scams out there.

So that’s pretty much all you need to know. The injections work but the oral HCG Diet Accelerator capsules are a lot safer, cheaper and easier to use in my opinion.

Just make sure to get it in the right place.

And of course always check with your doctor before beginning any new weight loss program.

But it’s been proven to be safe and effective and if you are looking to lose weight this is probably the best thing out there as far as safety, cost and effectiveness.

It’s changed my life and so many others. I hope it changes your life too.

I just finished my 23 day cycle. I lost 5 pounds the first and second week, then my period came and did not lose another pound. I am a little disappointed with that. I worked very hard to follow the diet exactly. What does your period do and why didn’t I lose any more weight?

Reply

Susan

So you lost 10 pounds total? Not too bad. But you need to double check your diet with an expert. If anyone has trouble I always check their diet and almost always find something to fix. But yes, your period will cause a stall in most cases. This is just because your hormones are going crazy and you tend to gain water weight. But if you are consistent on the diet you will continue to lose afterward. Get a coach to double check your diet.

Do I need to stop getting the injections once started my period? I started the injections two weeks after my period and Im afraid to stop because by that time I would not have complete at least the 26 days.

Reply

Susan

Talk with your provider and ask them for specifics. Injections and the drops are a bit different. With the HCG drops I used you never stop until you hit the ending day.

Denise

My company does random drug testing…how would hcg show up? Also, would it show that you are pregnant?

Reply

Susan

Great question. On injections it might show up because you are having a bigger dosage which is why I like the oral product I used. It won’t show up on any tests and it will not show you are pregnant, but it’s just as effective. So depends on what you are using but if you used what I used you should be just fine.

Just had a few questions. If you are not trying to lose a large amount of weight just a small amount, do you still need to complete the 40 days? Or can you take the oral drops until you reach your goal?

Reply

Susan

If you have less to lose you can do the drops until you hit your goal. Once you hit your goal you need to do 3 days of the diet without any HCG so it gets out of your system, then you move to maintenance phase. So yes, you can do shorter rounds if needed.

I will be receiving my hcg drops withing the next few days. Im not a real heavy person. Most of the extra weight is in my abdominal area as well as the thigh area. My arms are normal size. Where would the weight loss be more noticeable? Or does it just attack the fat cells?

Reply

Susan

Well it’s going to effect the fat storage areas. So wherever there is abnormal fat deposits it will take care of those. So your abdominal area as well as your thighs will see a huge improvement. You’ll see a big change in your weight and also a big change in the inches lost. Most likely you’ll lose several pant sizes so you have that to look forward to : )

I’m having trouble eating my vegetables…is this a problem? i’ve done pretty good so far 14lbs in 6 days, so I’m happy about that, just concerned that maybe I’m falling under the appropriate calories by skipping the spinach, lettuce, etc.

Reply

Susan

You should really get those veggies in. They have a lot of nutrients you need. You are doing great by losing 14 pounds in just 6 days though! So get those veggies in and continue to do great. If you need to you can eat them between meals as a snack. That should help get them in.

I am on day 2 of my first round and am so eager to start the low calorie diet tomorrow. My question is when can I start exercising again? I know I have 3 weeks of maintenance but after that I understand that I can go back to a 1500 – 1700 calorie diet but can I exercise then too for about 3 weeks and then start round 2?

Reply

Susan

While on the low calorie diet you can do 1-2 miles of walking/light jogging. Anymore than that and you may burn too many calories and it will actually stall you in the weight loss. But on maintenance and anytime you are not on the low calorie diet you can exercise as much as you’d like. Just remember though that you might build muscle and that will show on the scale. So just be aware of that and don’t freak out if you gain a couple pounds of muscle. It’s good to have muscle on you as that will help you burn more fat.

I know that I would like to try the HCG diet. However I’m debating on doing this on my own or with medical supervision through a weight loss clinic. Let me know what you think.

Reply

Susan

Well that depends on you. If you have many serious medical conditions you might choose to work with a clinic. But if not a clinic will be an expensive option and typically you can have just as good results if you go with a good company that provides support. For example, I did all my rounds at home and just used a private forum that was provided by the company I did my diet with to support myself through the diet and get all my questions answered. You will have questions so make sure you at least get some type of support. So it comes down to personal preference and your situation. But most people will do just fine at home.

I was thinking of starting this diet, but I was also wondering how it would affect my IBS. Do you know if this will cause Diarrhea or constipation? I have a lot of issues with this. IBS has taken over my life and it has caused me to put a lot of weight on. Please let me know.

Reply

Susan

Hi Deb. Well I doubt the HCG will effect your IBS and the food on the diet is totally normal and you have options if you can’t eat one particular food. It’s worth it to at least try it for a week or two and see how you do on it. The benefits are great and if it did happen to effect your IBS you could just stop the diet.

I am getting ready to start my first round but I have a question, I have abnormally dry skin and need to use a moisterizer on my face and body, what is safe to use? I tried going without moisterizer /creams for 2 days to see what the effect was and it was horrible. Iwant to start my first round but I am in fear my skin won’t tolorate it. What do you suggest

Reply

Susan

Well realize that you will be drinking a lot of water during the diet and that helps. Plus you can use mineral oil which is like a baby oil and that will moisturize your skin. It will be fine. Don’t let something as small as some dry skin stop you from getting to your goal weight and getting healthy.

I’m interested in this diet but is this the hormone made while pregnant? I ask because every time I’m pregnant I itch the whole time. My doctor said I am sensitive to the pregnancy hormone since it goes away within 2 weeks after the birth. Also it sounds like the weight loss is from the extremely low caloric intake.

Reply

Susan

I wouldn’t recommend the injections for you then. Use a good oral product. The dosage at which you are getting is extremely small and shouldn’t effect you negatively. And people take the HCG to help suppress your hunger while also taking your stored fat and burning it as fuel. So that’s why you can go on such a low calorie diet because you are burning your fat storage and getting those nutrients. So you lose weight and stay healthy. But you must do the HCG and stick to the exact diet because they work together. Doing just the diet won’t work and taking just the HCG won’t work, you must combine them together.

I have tried many diet pills, all natural and green tea supplements. I get a strange feeling and my hands shake. Will I get this type of side effects?

Reply

Susan

The shaking hands were from the caffeine and other stimulants in those products. They act as a stimulate to speed everything up so you burn more calories. HCG doesn’t work like that at all and you will have no side effects like that.

Reply

Gretchen

I am on supplements for anxiety and my adrenals. Can I continue them while on the diet?

Reply

Susan

If they are doctor prescribed then stay on them unless your doctor takes you off of them.

Reply

Gretchen

My supplements are perscribed by my naturopath. Will the supplements hinder my weight loss or will the HCG stress my adrenals?

Reply

Susan

Depends on what the supplements are. If they have any oil like a fish oil I would say just pause them until you are done with the diet. You can just pause it then restart it as soon as you hit the maintenance phase.

Reply

Nicole

I was wondering if it is safe to consume an alcoholic beverage while taking HCG?

Reply

Susan

Well it might be fine as far as a danger is concerned but there are no alcoholic drinks while on the diet so you will be messing up your results. So avoid it while on the couple weeks you are on the diet. What’s nice is it’s only for a couple weeks then you can go back to the things you had to pause during the diet.

Reply

Barbara

I have a questions. Can you safely take this if you are diabetic? If yes are there special things I might need to watch for?

Reply

Susan

You should always speak with your doc first but yes, many diabetic people go on the diet and do quite well. I have several friends who are and did well on the diet and they reduced the amount of insulin they needed as a result of this diet. So you can do really well. You just monitor your diabetes as normal and keep an eye on things and then worry about the diet. You eat normal food so that shouldn’t be a worry.

Hi, 16 years old and weigh 317 lbs so I really need to loose weight. I was wondering if this is safe for teens?

Reply

Susan

You need to talk with your parents and see what they think. They have to know just as much about the diet, if not more, than you do because you will need their permission and their help. Lots of young people go on the diet and they do fine but always check with your doctor. But make sure you have your parents help if you do happen to do the diet.

Hi I have PCOS and I take Metformin 500mg twice a day. Can I take the hcg drops without a complication?

Reply

Susan

Well since Metformin is for diabetes I would ask your doc just to make sure there aren’t any diet requirements. The food on the diet is extremely healthy and diabetics do extremely well on the diet. The PCOS should be fine as I’ve notice a great deal of people who go on the diet mention that they have PCOS.

I’m a 63 year old male taking Clarinex and Flomax daily, and Testosterone injections every three weeks. Is it OK for me to take HCG?

Reply

Susan

Well you can always ask your doctor if there are any diet requirements for any of those medications. I wouldn’t think there would be any problem but you can ask your doc about it. But I wouldn’t suggest HCG injections though since you are already doing injections. So make sure to do an oral product.

Reply

Tracy

Does HCG make you jittery or feel like diet pills make you feel?

Reply

Susan

No not at all. HCG doesn’t do anything to speed up your heart like those other products. It simply helps with the hunger and targets the right kind of fat to lose so while on the diet you don’t lose muscle. But no caffeine or anything else that gives you that jittery feeling.

Reply

Alexandra

I just got the program but I was wondering if it’ll interfere with my birth control at all.

Reply

Susan

Well if you are using the oral HCG it does not interfere with birth control at all. So just use your birth control as normal and you’ll be fine.

Hi I wanted to know if the HCG drops are safe for me since I take Metformin 500mg twice a day for PCOS. Also can I exercise while taking this because I heard rumors that exercise can couse the effects to minimize. Thank you.

Reply

Susan

There’s no problem with PCOS or Metformin. And exercise needs to be kept to a minimum as you will be burning too many calories. You don’t need to exercise at all while on this diet. Pause heavy workouts until you are done with the low calorie phase. Talk with who you got your product from and they can help you tailor your diet to fit your lifestyle.

I am on day 14 of taking the drop, I have lost 13lbs to date and feeling really great… on saturday after taking the 4 of 6th drop per day, my drop fell from my hands and the bottle broke……… I was devasted but I continued eating the 500 calories for Sunday and Monday and lost a pound each day……… I received another bottle today and have continue to take the drops again.
Do I have to add the two cays I lost or should I stop taking the drops on day 26 from the orginal day I started??

Reply

Susan

Glad you are doing so well and thanks for writing. So since you were off the drops for only a few short days and you stayed on the diet then just continue on as normal, you’ll be fine. If you don’t hit your goal weight by day 26 you can keep going until you hit it or hit 40 days, then move to maintenance phase.

I am just starting this diet and am looking for a good shampoo and conditioner that is oil free. I have very dry skin and hair so this part is important for me.

Reply

Ask who you are working with while on the diet and they will suggest the best kind to use. Don’t stress over shampoo and conditioner too much as it’s mostly the lotions you need to avoid.

I am concerned about the deficit in calories and nutrients that you are not getting while on the diet. I know that you are suppose to get 3500mg of potassium but on the diet you will really only be getting about 1000 mg which includes the potassium supplement. Can that be dangerous? Also eating only 500 calories a day are you truly getting all the nutrients you need?
My mother-in-law was on the diet and lost 25 pounds in 6 weeks so that was truly motivating but I wanted to know mostly about if you truly had that much of a deficit for 30-40 days at a time could it be harmful?

Reply

Susan

Hi Jen. The actual diet if you add it up is closer to 800-1,000 calories a day. the 500 calories a day is more of a myth. And remember, your body will be burning your fat storage and getting those stored nutrients. So even if you don’t intake the same amount of calories or nutrients in your food, you are still getting those nutrients from the fat storage. And as you can see from your mother-in-law the diet works. You can do as many rounds as you need just don’t go past the 40 day mark.

Reply

Ashley

After you are done with the diet and the maintance, later down the road would I still be able to loose weight without doing this diet again? Like by exercise and eating healthy.

Reply

Susan

Yes I am done. If you have more weight to lose you can lose it any way you’d like. You can always do another round though if you need to. It’s nice to lose it so quickly on the diet then using exercise and eating well to maintain your weight loss.

Can you do the HGC diet after having half your thyroid out and being on synthoid?

Reply

Absolutely. I would say a vast majority of people who go on the diet have thyroid issues. I hear from people all the time that after the diet they go off their thyroid medication because they did so well on the diet and they are so much more healthy. So no worries there.

I have a couple questions:

Does the HCG expire? Like for example if I bought the 60 days worth of drops, It would still be ok after the the 3 weeks maintenance period at the end of the first 40 days? I don’t want to buy too much at one time and waste it.

And where did you find information about the diet that you need?

I’m 22 now and weigh 255lbs. In high school I weighed somewhere between 165-175. Hope to lose at least 60lbs, and I know it is possible.

Reply

Tony A

Also forgot to ask about how long will the drops take to come in the mail. I live near the Chicago area.

Reply

Susan

I’m not sure who you got your product from or what method of shipping you chose. but I would imagine 4-5 days at the most.

Reply

Susan

Well I have no idea where you ordered from but the product I used didn’t expire for well over a year. Just keep it in the fridge and it will be fine and ready to go when you need it. And since you are young and male you will lose incredible quickly so you will see amazing results in the first couple days. Also, contact who you bought your product from and get their instructions.

Hello,

I have been reading up on the HCG diet. And I have a few questions.
What happens if you go over the 500 calories?
I’m almost 300 lbs, would this be something you recommend to lose 100+ lbs?
How many cycles do you think it would take to lose that much weight?
I’m pretty desperate to lose weight, nothing i’ve tried works.
Please help!?

Reply

Susan

Hello. I’ve found that the 500 calorie issue is a myth. I’ve added up many of my HCG meals and it comes to 800-1000 calories a day. And that’s plenty to keep you healthy. So yes, you can lose 100+ pounds and I’ve personally have seen it several times. It will take several rounds but the nice thing is you can do it at whatever pace you want. You literally can lose as quickly or slowly as you need. Let me know if you have questions. This system works if you do it right.

Hi Susan,

I started the HCG diet a little over a week ago and am down 10 lbs!! I’m very excited that this is working. The question I have is do you think the Sobe or Vitamin Waters that have Zero calories are okay? I read the ingredients on the Sobe water and didn’t see any artificial ingredients or any artificial sweeteners. I would like to be able to drink these types of water again as plain water is sometimes boring. I have also been putting a lemon in my water which helps.

Thank you for your website – it was very useful to me while I was researching this diet.

Reply

Susan

Great job Jackie! You are losing very quickly. So on those drinks no, you shouldn’t drink them. It’s not about calories at all. They contain a lot of other bad ingredients. Add stevia or lemon to your water. You can also get sparkling water (check the label though) and add stevia or lemon and it works great.

I’ve been on the drops for 9 days and have followed the instructions exactly. I lost 8 lbs in first 7 days but have not lost anymore. Any suggestions?

Reply

Susan

You just stalled a day and that’s normal, especially for women. You lost 8 pounds in just 7 days. Ask who you are working with to check your diet though to make sure you are doing it correctly. Also, if you are on your period, or close to it, that will cause a stall most times. Even if you are in menopause your body will cycle naturally and that can cause you to retain water and stall. No worries though. Just keep going and you’ll be fine as long as you are doing it correctly.

Hurry because it’s cold and dry here in N Minnesota and my skin shows it!

I have recently started spotting with it and usually do not have a cycle. I have had my IUD for almost 3 years. I love the diet and how it is finally causing me to change my eating habits. I haven’t really applied myself after having my last child 2 years ago. I hope I can maintain this for the 40 days! I am excited and already feel better about myself!!

I am on day 18 of the hcg diet, and have already reached my weight goal, is it best to stop drops for 3 days and then go to maint phase….or continue and lose a couple more pounds???? How much does the average person gain back?
Thanks,

Reply

Susan

Well it’s up to you. If you reached your goal weight that you are happy with then yes, do 3 days of the diet with no drops, then do 3 weeks of maintenance. If you think you can go lower and that’s still within the healthy weight range for your height, then you can keep going. You can go up to 40 days in a row. So think about where you will be happy and go off of that. And if you do maintenance correctly and you’ve learned from the diet then you shouldn’t gain any back beside the normal 1-2 pound fluctuation up and down which is normal.

You need to contact who you got your product from because you have some bad information. For example you are not counting calories, if you do you will fail. You eat the correct foods in the right amount by weighing. So contact who you got your product from and they will help you. If they can’t help you maybe you should consider returning and going with someone who offers support because you will need it all the way through the diet.

For 10 pounds, and if you are male which it looks like from your name, you can lose that amount of weight in a week if you just follow the diet as it is designed. So get a good product, commit for a week and then be done with it. You can do anything for a week. Congratulations on your wedding!

Thank you so much for answering my previous questions. I’m sorry I accidentally asked the same question twice. I learned about HCG from my brother, he has now lost 98 pounds in a year and he wasn’t that careful at first, so he is doing very well. Another brother has lost 44 pounds with his 1 1/2 treatments and I am at the beginning of round 2 and have lost 37 pounds. We are all so happy and excited about it! My brother ( who has lost 44 lbs) was wondering about going on his honeymoon in a few days. He has been on his second round of drops for 19 days and is doing 3 days of 500 calories without drops. On his honeymoon he plans to eat as if on maintenance, no sugars or starches. He will be gone 9o or 10 days. When he gets home should he just continue on the second treatment as normal, for 21 more days? Should he load the first 2 days? Or, should he stay on maintenance for three weeks and then start this second treatment all over again? Thanks for you site, I love to read all of the questions people have and your responses. It is helpful and inspiring. I went to a lot of web sites as I was beginning and yours is the most objective and helpful I have found.

Thank you for your kind words Michele! Your family is doing great and they have lost a lot of weight. They must feel so much more healthy! So if your brother is gone 9-10 days and follows maintenance perfectly, I would tell him to just jump right back into the diet. He can do a mini load day of just eating a lot of maintenance foods the day before he starts the low calorie again. So tell him to take the drops on that day as well. If he doesn’t follow maintenance very well then tell him to just start fresh again with 2 loading days.

Always consult with your doctor. But I would say a majority of people on the diet are on blood pressure medication. Losing weight will greatly improve your condition so after the diet get retested and you’ll probably be able to cut down on the medication or get off it altogether.

Great post. I recently completed it using the drops and was very successful. I would also, like you, recommend that people really do their homework when purchasing the drops as there are many people that simply don’t buy the right drops and have no success.

Hi. I think I’m pregnant. Can I use HCG drops while I’m pregnant and can give it me a false urine pregnancy result.

If you are pregnant you shouldn’t be on a low calorie diet. So first find out if you are pregnant. Then if you are don’t do the diet. Injections can cause a false positive but the oral drops won’t. So find out if you are pregnant then make a decision on what to do.

I would like to start HCG diet, and have IBS, Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism,
taking natural supplements and natural thyroid, Amlodipine for BP. , and
food allergies. It’s looks like I could handle it, I have reduced starch and
sugar in my diet. Do I need to come off some of these supplements? I don’t
know if these supplements and drug will slow the diet down. I probably need
about two rounds.

Supplements are typically fine to take while on the diet. Just take care of yourself first, then worry about the diet.
