HCG Side Effects In Women?

I know many women who are worried about any side effects associated with the HCG diet.

Many of them ask me if there will be any dangers or lasting effects that range from the silly to the serious.

Some women are worried about little things like skin issues and some are worried about larger issues like an effect on having children in the future.

But are any of these worries warranted?

To put it simply, no.

The HCG diet has been proven effective for 50-60 years and thousands upon thousands of women (and men) have done the diet successfully.

It doesn’t effect your ability to have children in the future (in fact it may increase your chances!).

And as of this writing I know of no long-term effects that are negative.

If you use the safe method that I talk about in this post: “HCG Diet Dangers” you’ll be fine. Make sure to read that post now as it contains the most information about any side effects or dangers.

Injections can be a little more tricky and can pose some complications but that is typically because of the delivery method and not because of the HCG itself.

One thing you should be aware of though is the low calorie diet you will be doing while on the HCG.

It’s low calorie so things like exercise should be avoided. Otherwise you will burn more calories than you have and be starving the whole time on the diet.

Also since it’s low calorie you shouldn’t be pregnant or nursing during the diet because you won’t have enough nutrients to help support your baby. It’s not that the HCG is dangerous for your baby it’s because the low calorie diet just doesn’t have enough calories for you and a baby. So don’t be pregnant or nursing on the diet. But after you are done with the diet you are fine to get pregnant.

But other than those basic precautions it’s extremely safe. I personally have coached hundreds of people and haven’t seen anything out of the ordinary.

But what I have seen is that everyone loses the weight. Even those with thyroid issues and other serious conditions that haven’t been able to lose the weight in the past do extremely well.

So make sure you are healthy enough to go on a low calorie diet, but after that you should be OK to do this amazing diet. In fact think about how unhealthy it is to NOT do the diet.

It always amazes me when someone has 100+ pounds to lose and they are worried about this proven diet. They should be worried about the 100 extra pounds of fat they need to lose and how it’s effecting their health!

In fact once they start losing the weight they feel great, usually stop taking the myriad of medications they are on and are much, much healthier. I feel comfortable in saying that this diet has saved many people’s lives.

I think that people have worries about starting the diet more as a way to delay it and have an excuse to not take action, but that’s a subject for another article.

So take the first step and get started. And as always please post in the comments below with your questions and updates on progress!

If I order the HCG will it come with all the instructions to do the diet successfully? Do you have to change personal items like shampoo, deoderant, makeup, moisturizers? and if so why?

Reply

Susan

Well that depends on where you get your HCG. If you work with the company I used then yes, you get all instructions, guides and even a membership into their member’s only forum where you can talk to coaches and other people on the diet. And yes, you should change/pause moisturizers because they are absorbed into your body and will cause a stall or weight gain.

I really want to try the HCG but want to make sure I find a good company to get it through. Can you help me on this?

Sure. The people I use are on the front page of this site. So just go to the main page and you’ll see a link: http://www.hcgdietdangers.com/

What do the drops taste like and how long do you leave them under your tongue before you swallow them? Do you have to take a vitamin with this diet and if I’m taking fish oil would I have to stop taking it?

Reply

Susan

I don’t think they have much of a taste. And use the instructions they give you on how long and how often to take them. And yes, pause your fish oil during the diet. You can resume it right after though.

Is this diet and supplement safe for heart patients ?

Reply

Always check with your doctor but I’ve seen many heart patients successfully do the diet.

Can you talk about any possible side effects that the diet can bring when ordered through your recommended site and when its done properly? Why isn’t this diet plan widely advertised through tv and other media sources?

I am thinking about trying this product along with my hubby and have heard it makes you sensitive, will this be true for him as well?

Reply

Susan

The basic side effects are headaches and leg cramps, but that’s from the low calorie diet and can be easily fixed with a headache medicine on the days you have headaches (which seem to be about 2 days because you are detoxing), and you can take a potassium supplement to fix the leg cramps. Both are easily fixed. And I’ve never heard of it making you sensitive. People sometimes get grumpy emotionally, are you talking about sensitive emotions? That’s common for most diets as food does effect your mood some. But I was fine and most people are just fine on it, I wouldn’t worry about that. And the diet is kind of a big underground secret. It’s not advertised on TV because HCG can’t be patented which means the big pharmacy companies can’t be the exclusive seller and so they won’t put their millions of dollars behind it. But that’s good news for you because it makes it available and affordable to everyone.

Can I use HCG if I have CKD?

Reply

Susan

If you have Chronic Kidney Disease I would definitely speak with your doctor first. Get acquainted with how the diet works and understand it well so you can explain it to your doctor, then ask him if it’s alright.

I am thinking about starting th HCG diet. I have a very active life and only need to lose 7 pounds. Do I need to do the 500 calories intake only. I love working out at least 4 times a week

Reply

Susan

It’s not exactly 500 calories, that’s more of a myth. You eat foods from a list and you weigh it out. For only 7 pounds I would recommend just keep doing what you are doing. The HCG diet is very powerful and usually only worth it if you have more than 10 pounds to lose. And that’s a lot of working out while on the diet. If you do do the diet you’ll need to cut back some or work with who you get your product from on adding more protein in.

What type of vitamins should be taken while on the HCG?

Reply

Susan

Lots of people suggest B12 but I never did and don’t really see any benefits. You don’t NEED to take anything other than the HCG. If you happen to get leg aches in the beginning of the diet you can use a potassium supplement that will fix that, but other than that you don’t need anything really.

Will The HCG Drops interfer with my Birth Control Pills?

Reply

Susan

Hi Sherry. No, as long as you are taking your birth control as you should it won’t interfere at all. So just follow your directions and you’ll be fine.

Reply

I started this last Saturday and have been cold every day, is that normal? I think it’s related to the Hcg becuase I haven’t been cold since I gave birth 13 years ago.

Reply

Susan

You are just eating fewer calories and therefore not producing as much heat, it’s a good thing. So it’s not from the HCG but the low calorie diet. So just put on a jacket and dress a little warmer. It’s a good sign that you are using up all the energy from your food so you’ll be losing weight a lot quicker.

Are there any supplements that should not be taken while taking the HCG? I read that a side effect may be facial hair is this true? Are the injections and sublingual forms both equally effective? Also im a vegetarian will this be a problem with the food list? I’ve read so many mixed answers on these questions. I’m confused. I would greatly appreciate sme clarification. Thanks.

Reply

Susan

Hi Ashley. You can take pretty much any supplements but avoid anything with sugar in them like a protein drink or something like that. But a regular multi-vitamin would be fine. And NO, it does NOT make you grow facial hair. That’s a new one! No worries though. And yes, injections and oral forms will give you the same results but I think the oral is safer because injections always pose a danger. And I know the company I got my HCG from has a version of the diet for vegetarians and even vegans, so just ask who you are working with to help you. Best of luck!

Hi Susan, in the past 2 years i’ve gained 50 pounds and would like to lose it. Me and my mom would like to start hcg but have a few q’s. I’ve been researching hcg, and my few questions are if it has side effects of stomach pains or nausia. My stomach is pretty sensitive. Im currently taking Prozac and Xanex. Will this stimulate anxiety? As for my mother, she has high blood pressure and takes meds for it. Also, does the hcg most affect people in a certain age group? I’m 18 and my mother is 63. Very appreciate it for the answers! You seem to know your stuff, so I’m very appreciative for your answers! Thank you!

Reply

Susan

Hi Chrissy. I haven’t seen any side effects of stomach pain or nausia, and no it will not stimulate anxiety. It’s a very lose dose of HCG as it doesn’t take much compared to the pregnancy treatments that HCG is also used for. And the diet works for people much younger than yourself and I’ve seen people over the age of 90 do the diet successfully. Hope that helps and best of luck to you and your mom!

I have lost 5 pounds in two days on the HCg and i know it is because i worked out both days i did Zumba and drank lots of water. My only side effect is that i have joint pain that i have never had before..It is also probably because of my impending period?.What do you think?
I am 5’9 and weigh 163 at 30 years old and i just want to lose another 35 pounds. The 500 calorie diet is quite easy because i have been on a 1200 calorie diet for the last year and lost 50 pounds.

Reply

Susan

Hi Ida. Well from my experience I highly doubt it was from the working out. In fact I would suggest cutting that out as that is going to stall your results. You will be gaining muscle and burning too many calories. And are you counting calories on the diet? I hope not, you don’t count calories, just take the food from the list and eat it in the required amounts. The actual diet is closer to 800-900 calories. It’s normal to lose 5+ pounds in the first couple days. I’ve seen people lose 15+ their first week without any exercise. So don’t overdo it exercising as it will slow you down. The nice thing about this diet is you can lose all the weight without exercise then start exercising heavily as soon as you are done. Good job though on the 5 pounds.

You will probably see better results if you just take a break. If you don’t want to take a break then just cut back. Ask who you get your product from how to do this. If they are a good provider they should have plenty of help and tips on how to make the diet work with your situation.

I’ve noticed my face breaking out since starting the hcg, coincidence or have you heard of this happening?

Reply

Susan

It’s rare but it can happen because you are detoxing from all the water you are drinking. Which is a good thing. So it brings it all out but soon it will clear up. No big deal. It could still be a coincidence but if it’s from the diet you are just detoxing. It will pass shortly. Avoid stress and you’ll be fine.

Hi Susan
I just heard about HCG injection last week on TV and the Dr who was talking about HCG said that you can also find HCG drop on the internet but they are not strong enough. He said that the HCG injections that we give is stronger and is more like medical grade is this true? Also when I searched for Hcg online there are lots of website that we can buy hcg so please tell me which company you work with and you trust so I can buy from them or is it better if I buy injections from Dr. Thank you so much.

Reply

Susan

Well of course he said that because he wants you to buy HIS product and not something else. It’s not true what he says though. I get all mine online from this company: HCG Diet. They have great support and guarantee results. They are the only people I use and they always gave me a realistic expectation of what my results would be. Most other places promise you you’ll lose 2 pounds a day, which for most people isn’t realistic. You’ll do well but not that well unless you are a male and have 100+ pounds to lose. So you can do it on your own at home if you’d like. That’s how most people do it and that’s who I use.

I am intrested in trying the hcg oral or injection. I have pcos. I have facial hair (a lot) and the rest of my body is hairy as well. Will this help decrease this issue? Also I have an undiagnosed issue with my brain. They found lesions and are not sure if it is a stroke or a neurological issue. I have not had any symptoms in about a year. Would this be contraindicated in either of these possibilities? I know I should check with my doctor but as much information would be greatly appreciated. I have had several doctors and obgyn’s and they all say, just diet and work out your young you can do it. Well I’m 30 and have been over weight for just over ten years and I can’t do it on my own. I’ve lost weight here and there but cannot keep it off. I am a nurse and have a high stress job most days. I read that you should avoid stress, that is impossible for most of us. I just want to be thin and healthy. Also, how long is the hcg course? Are you injecting daily and how often are you taking it if you choose orally?

Reply

Susan

Hi Schelle. Yes, always talk with your doc. They will be able to take into consideration the other issues. I doubt HCG will have any effect on the hair either way. It just doesn’t effect hair in these small doses. You can lose weight on this diet very easily just make sure your docs give you the OK. I ALWAYS recommend the oral method over injections. It’s safer, cheaper and easier to do. You can do a 40 day round before you take a break and then you can do another round. More details on on the main page of this site.

I have been doing HCG diet since May 01 and I have lost 13 pounds so far, but today I almost feel like I have the flu I’m cold and stomach pain with nausia? Should I still be taking the HCG While sick? Or do you think this is normal?

Reply

Susan

Hi Valorie. So you’ve lost 13 pounds in about 8-9 days? Does that include loading so it’s more like 6-7 days? Either way you are doing fantastic so keep up the great work you are doing! And it sounds like you are just getting sick or maybe even food poisoning from something you ate. What I would do is only eat what you feel like and try to get better. If you must eat something off of the protocol then try to stick with maintenance foods first. Then once you are feeling better you can jump back to the low calorie diet. Get feeling better then focus on the diet. So determine if you are just sick then take care of it, then jump back to the diet. If you have to eat something off the diet eat maintenance type foods (avoid sugar and starches). You are doing great so far though!

Are there any future side-effects for younger women after the diet? And what if a mother doesn’t really want her daughter to take the hormone, because she is afraid it could have bad side-effects in the future for her, does it have future side-effects?

Reply

Susan

I have seen on side effects from the oral drops, and even injections there haven’t been any long term side effects. If you don’t want your daughter on it that’s fine, tell her not to do it. Always ask her doctor and see if there’s anything specific for her. Try and find a doctor who knows weight loss though. But I haven’t seen 1 study that shows any long term side effects. And the diet is over 50+ years old so there has been plenty of time for it to show up.

I have been on the diet or 18 days an I’m having a problem with irregularity. I normally go every day but I am lucky to go once a week now. Any suggestions? I have lost 17.5 pounds. I am drinking alot of tap water because I have a filtering system in my home. Do you really need to stick with spring water?

Reply

Susan

Hi Deanna. I get this question often. You are fine, you will be going FAR less because you are eating far less and burning even more. So you have less to pass so you’ll have fewer trips to the bathroom, but it’s normal and natural. If you ever feel constipated though (NOT just because you haven’t gone in awhile) then you can use “smooth move” tea, which will help you go. And you don’t need spring water at all. Tap is just fine. Sounds like you are doing excellent though!

Hi,

I am thinking about starting on HCG but I’ve noticed some conflicting info online. Some sites say you should not use it if you have ovarian cysts but I’ve seen people post that they has PSOC and have had great success with it. I am concerned about the possible dangers. Can you shed any light on this for me?

Reply

Susan

Well always ask your doc. I know many people who are on the same oral product that I used and they have PCOS and they have done or are doing great. I would avoid injections though because the dosage is much higher and not needed. But from what I’ve seen I have only seen positives. Hopefully someone will run across this and post their personal experience.

I totally agree with you. At 90 lbs overweight I had way more “side effects” that were making me unhealthy that I do now. I am on my 4th round of hcg and have lost 75 lbs. Life is totally different. Thanks for giving people this information.

I started hcg 6 days ago and have list 9lbs. I was doing great but today I started with a upset belly after eating and later started feeling light headed, tingle in my head and hands, little bit of shortness of breath. I did run a lot of errands and did quite a few chores and was late on eating. Is this normal?

Reply

Susan

No, for the most part it’s not so you might just be getting a bug or something. The light headiness can be caused by too much exertion. If you overdid it today physically you can be a little light headed and feel a little tingly. Just eat something and make sure you are drinking all your water that’s required. Great job on the 9 pounds in 6 days. Does that mean it’s only your 4th day on the VLCD after loading? You are doing great so keep it up!

Hi. I started this diet by taking the pellets and the first couple of days into underneath my eyes and the outside corners became very red and inflamed. I stopped the pellets and it took 1 week for it to clear up. I now have started it again and in day 2 again the swelling came back. I am drinking the recommended water amount and am losing the weight but am not happy with the swelling. I am debating to stop taking the pellets and just maintain the diet by following the recipes. I am within reach of my goal already. What are your thoughts?

Reply

Susan

Hi Tammy. For the record I don’t like the pellets and doubt their effectiveness. Anyway, it sounds like you are allergic to something. It could be what the HCG is wrapped in, so whatever the pellet is made out of, which is usually a gelatin. So I’d consider switching to the drops or even injections if you want to do that. And don’t do the diet without the HCG. You will eventually fail from too much hunger and you will be burning muscle which isn’t good either. So find a better product if that one is causing you problems.

Hi Susan,
Been taking this now for 7 days. Yesterday I woke up and my body quit losing or something. The lose weight feeling throughout my body went away. This morning the same and no weight loss. Did my body get use to it that quick and quit? No way am I eating BEEF, do I cut out the vegetables and just eat chicken and shrimp? Don’t eat at all for a day, exercise, what?

Reply

Susan

Hi Kay. No worries at all. Some days you just have a stall and that’s totally normal and you shouldn’t worry. Just keep going and you’ll be just fine. Do NOT skip any food, that won’t help. And any exercise beyond the basics of walking or light jogging past 1 mile or so will actually slow you down as well. Just keep going and you’ll do just fine. Also if you can eat the fish I usually see quicker results than beef, but as long as you are eating the foods on the list you’ll do great.

Hi,
I started the HCG drops 15 days ago; the first 8 days I lost 10 lbs and was ecstatic! Then I cheated on night, and have been unable to lose any weight since. I am even eating less than I did the first week, as well as walking every day. What am I doing wrong? How can I get back to getting results??

Thanks

Reply

Susan

Do NOT eat less. Follow the instructions and eat everything you should, eating less will not help and cause you to stall. You cheated, that’s OK, everyone does sometime. Just get back to the plan. If you have stalled more than 4-5 days then you may do an apple day. That will break up the stall. But keep going. Any stall will eventually end. 10 pounds is a lot to lose in a month, let alone 8 days. I think on the HCG diet we get spoiled, but this is the fastest plan out there so keep going and you’ll be fine.

Well if you need help you should ask who you are working with directly. But yes, on the first 2 days you gorge, eat anything you can and stay full all day long. Then the start of the 3rd day you adhere to the low calorie diet outlined in the HCG diet plan.

Hi! I wanted to post that I have been on the HCG Diet for just over 3 weeks and
I have lost 18.6 lbs and have dropped one pant size and 2 blouse sizes!! I can say with all honesty that the first 5 days were a little hard because I was used to munching when I wanted to and I did feel a bit sluggish for a day or two, but that was it!. I sitll have a little over a week left to go and I am certain that I will loose some more weight. This is the easier and safest diet I have ever been on and I would recommend it to anyone. I live on unsweetened Iced Tea (with Sweet N Low ofcourse!)
Please, if you are on the fence about trying the HCG Diet, think no more…do it and start to feel good in your skin again….I know I do :)

I got leg cramps for a day but they went away. It’s no big deal. And I talk about blood clots on the main page. The diet works, you just have to work it correctly.

Talk with your doc. But you are not the first nor last to do the diet with high blood pressure. I’d say most of the people who do the diet have the same issues plus a myriad of others. Once you lose the weight you’ll see that correct itself in most cases.

Hi
I am thinking about using HCG. I want to lose 30 lbs my body is rejecting the normal dieting and exercise and for the past 4 months or more I have been the same weight, nothing changed. do you know a lot of people that gained the weight back once they started eating normally? and also is there anyway for me to keep my normal exercise schedule? like eating more calories?

Yes, the diet will work for you if you just follow the instructions. And let me ask you, why do you want to keep your exercise schedule during the diet if it’s not working? Focus on losing the weight on the diet, you can always go back to your workout routine. And you only regain the weight if you go back to old, bad habits. The diet, if done correctly, will help you learn how to eat correctly and keep the weight off forever. You can still have yummy food but you just learn how to do it differently. And working out after the diet will help you build some muscle that will keep the weight off as well.

Susan,
I have been on the HCG injections for 3 days and I believe I am breaking out in hives all over my body. Would this be from the injections or is it just from the detox?

Probably just from the detox, it’s rare but I do see it from time to time. Talk with your provider about it to get help. But it usually goes away in a day or so.

i have used hcg injections through my doctor twice the first time i lost 26 lbs and this last time I lost 32 lbs I started at 196 and I am now down to 142. I exercised while i was on it more than most do, I kept a food journal (provided by my doctor), followed the booklets recipes and I have had no negative side effects (aside from the potassium which is fixed with a daily dose and Mrs. dash) if anything it has helped me lose in the areas that were most difficult inner thighs, triceps, and love handles. It has also helped with my menstrual cycle. I have always had horrible cramps and my period was always so unpredictable. Since my first cycle of HCG my period has been spot on every time and IF i cramp up it’s minimal and easily tamed by ibuprofen or midol. it is a hard diet, and you HAVE to be dedicated for it to be successful. (that means no chocolate cake or suckers) and for anyone that like their sweets, splenda really is a wonderful substitute. I also have cardiac issues and it had no effect on my heart what so ever. all and all I would have to say i loved the hcg diet.

Great story Katie! Thanks for sharing. I would add that if you switch from Splenda to just Stevia you will see even better results. But you did great so good job and thanks again for sharing your progress with everyone.
