A Vegetarian Version Of The HCG Diet?

I get a lot of questions about the HCG diet. But one that has been coming up on a regular basis is if there is a way to do the HCG diet if you are a vegetarian or you don’t want to eat meat.

Well the short answer is yes. Many vegetarians and even vegans can do this diet successfully.

They have to make some changes that aren’t on the original protocol but it can be done.

So how can you do it?

Well you need to substitute the protein portion of the diet to something you can eat.

So some vegetarians eats seafood and they can eat any of the seafood examples that are on the protocol. But seafood can get old and a lot of vegetarians and all vegans don’t eat seafood. So here’s what else you can eat.

I’ve heard good results substituting 2 egg whites for the protein portion of the diet. So instead of eating meat, eat those 2 egg whites.

But that still doesn’t offer a lot of variety and doesn’t help the vegans.

So you can also try 1 cup black beans and 1/2 cup brown rice. Notice I said BROWN rice and not white.

So the beans and the rice can be eaten together in place of the meat portion of the diet.

Keep in mind though that this is just for people who don’t eat meat and need something else. If you are a meat eater then stick to the original protocol.

But if you are a vegetarian or a vegan this version of the HCG diet has been known to work well.

Hello. Yes, you can do the diet if you are vegan, you just need to make some adjustments. Talk with who you plan to work with and they can help. I know the people I work with have a version that can be used by vegetarians and vegans.

Yes, there are vegetarian options. Talk with who you are working with and they should have the options all laid out for you.

Actually, you can eat just legumes WITHOUT the brown rice and get even better results! Legumes are – in contrast to the ever-popular but out-dated theory – a perfect food for everyone and anyone! Beans will help to control your blood sugar levels and are an excellent source of fiber! Even when not taking HCG, eating beans is an excellent aid in losing weight!
Go for the more easily digested legumes such as lentils, white beans (navy, cannellini, or fava), pinto beans, garbanzo beans, etc. Black beans are also good, but a little more difficult to digest for some. One cup per meal is plenty and all you’ll need to control your appetite! (I am also a researcher, consultant, and practitioner of natural health and nutrition – for 25 years)

Thanks for the comment Cindy. I’ve noticed the rice doesn’t hinder results and they are nice to have. But yes, legumes are great!

…to amend the foregoing comment: I meant to say and imply that beans (legumes) are a perfectly balanced food and a “complete” protein all by themselves and do not need the addition of rice to “complete” the protein analysis. That was a mistaken theory made and published many years ago and continuous to be “copy-catted”. Although rice, millet, and quinoa are better choices of ‘starchy’ carbs than most others, it is best save them for when you are finished with a 6 wk HCG diet protocol. If any ‘cheat’ is desired, (in place of the breadsticks that have been ‘allowed’) I would recommend Mary’s crackers (Caraway being my personal favorite) which are made from seeds, rice, and quinoa; but only have a very small amount.

Cindy,
I just had a question…..so you CAN eat lentils on the HCG diet to replace the protein and still loose weight? I just read something that said it wouldn’t work, but it sounds like you know what you are talking about. Have you tried the HCG with lentils\legumes?

You can if you eat the right kind in the right amount. Yes, it will work. Talk with who you are working with and they should be able to help you.

What type of beans and how big of a serving do you have?
I am a vegan and I am very interested in the beans!

You want to use only black beans. Talk with who you are working with and they’ll be able to help you. If you haven’t chosen someone yet then just email who you are thinking about using about vegan options.

Hi all. I am also vegan (although new, of only 3 months) and ive read about a vegan protein powder that can be substituted, but dont personally want to partake in shakes for 40 days. The black beans would make me a very happy person. Im currently on day 4 on the drops, two of which were the vlcd days, and have lost 3.5 lbs, and I did have tofu last night. I dont think i would recommend that on a regular basis, but I did still lose. I forced myself to eat shrimp the first night, not having any of the other options in my kitchen, and needless to say, i cannot go back to eating meat for this diet, even though its a great diet. I contacted the austin wellness clinic, the place in which I did my first round of hcg injections to get their opinion on a vegan protocol, and they told me that they support animal proteins, and that they did not have a vegan based protocol in place to give me. So any feedback on vegans that have done the beans, tofu, vegan powder, etc with excellent results please give feedback if at all possible. Thank you for your time. Good luck to all of you on your weight loss journey.
